AU-ROOM – Neon Reflections

AU-ROOM is a music band from Russia. However, it is not a music band in the conventional sense. It is more of an assortment of some individuals with sparkling musical talent. The band was established in 2007 – in “a warm July morning”, as one of the band members puts it. Even though the collective history of the band is quite short, the individuals who formed the band are well experienced and ferociously talented. A Brief Introduction To AU-ROOM

AU-ROOM hit the music world about two years back. So far, the band has brought some extra-ordinary experimental electronic music albums. The team members of the band had been part of the Russian show business industry at various stages. The chief architects behind this out-of-the-box music variety are Mila Maltseva and Vjacheslav Amirkuliev. Gulan and His Space music

Gulan is one of the stalwarts in the universe of electronic music known under various names such as space music, ambient, or new age music. It is a kind of fusion music that touches several genres, but doesn’t confine to a single one. The music creates deep feelings in the mind that touch the consciousness of the listener. Spacemusic. Moments with Gulan from Latvia

The Cassiopeia album opens up the true Gulan Theatre: widely arranged pads, sequencial loops, strong lead, warm chords taking over, thoughts will fade, feelings will take over. The music reminds us of some songs by Vangelis, Gandalf, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. Gulan now has it’s unique twist, his unique touch: surprising the listener with bubbles full of special treatments and special effects.
The title tracks are Cassiopeia part 1, 2 and 3 and they start our journey on the album. All three show us a bit of the Gulan Universe: call it Space music, New Age, Ambient, we prefer the album not to be filed under any specific genre. The music is different everytime your hear it! The Infinite – this is closer to the core, this track is 100% timeless and gives the head a spin and a serious weightless impulse sort of speak…. from there The Infinite 2 starts a pleasant sweep and bleep phase and Gulan takes care of the environment: his music builds up a scene and includes blankets, candles, wine, cheese and protection against boring tones: all ingredients are fresh and do taste delicious on all portable players, HiFi sets, car stereo and BIG cinema sets!

Return Home – this track does the trick, now you will get lost for sure! The crystal sweet melody starts playing and invites you to open up another door. This door opens up @ 2 minutes and there you are…. the Deep, the Big and the Unexpected. This feels great! 100% in Space. Maybe it had to do with the Sony Playstation screensaver, showing the earth from space while we played the album….returning home is for later, just enjoy the space trip in full effect!

After Submergence – which gave us plenty of time (bit too long perhaps…) to think about bits and bytes, the Delerium track has the sequence, the subtle rhythmic sauce we were looking for now, the cinematic side too. The lead synth as a guide, showing you bells, winds, dolphins, water; not really there of course, but one can imagine easily…. At this stage we found ourselves healed. Fresh. Charged. Cassiopeia did it.

This album is one you’ll never forget. It’s a journey you’ll make more than once. You’ll play it and play it again. It’s beautifully arranged, typical Gulan style. Surprising. Clean. Clear. High production level. Space!

GULAN – Sphere. Space music, Ambient, Electronica

Another release by Gulan, whose work is inspired by the music of Klaus Schulze, Michael Stearns, Robert Rich, Tangerine Dream. The tracks range from ambient electronica to more of a Berlin-school feel.

“I am not usually into “meditation” music, and frankly bought Sphere because I liked the sound clips that I heard. But, after listening to the CD front to back, I was amazed at the journey that this music takes you through. Unlike other ambient music that sounds like “repetitive sheet music”, this album comes off like a work of art with great ingenuity.

Beautiful passages with slight variations that sweep your mind into the journey that is Gulan.

The first two tracks start with much motion and activity, the long third track Altai changes the mood with placid tonal passages, then tracks 4-6 bring you back into a flurry of mind trips. The last track, Synthetic-x is a fitting poignant ending. I just hope that there is a sequel to this album – I will certainly buy it!”

«Sphere», which comes with great cover art, starts in the same manner as his album «Cassiopeia»: warm, drifting textures of the title track embrace the listener with tranquil, ethereal sonics.

The 11-minute «Airway-2″ is more active, as the textures have a stronger symphonic and deepening sound and are accompanied by nice sequencing.
Next comes «Altai», the longest track on the album, an almost 18-minute tranquil, slow meandering floater, nicely followed by the expanding, planetarium soundscapes of «Cosmophonia».

«Airway-4″ and returns to the more active, sequenced style. The only minor point on the album is the freeform «Abstracto», which sounded a bit rough to my ears.

All in all, «Sphere» is a well produced and composed cosmic journey which lots of ambient/space fans will surely embrace.

Serge Untech (real name – Sergey Govor) is an EDM composer from Latvia. He has possessed his musical talents since early childhood. He was interested in every new sounding. Most of all he liked «Underworld», «Faithless» and «The Prodigy». Then his friend gave him a CD with «trance» music. Sergey just loved that kind of sounding, cause he found it highly emotional and rhythmic. In 2001 he started his experiments with trance sounding making his own soundtracks. In 2005 he finds out that his girlfriend (Karina Latisheva) has a good voice and a good ear for music. Karina has taken the nickname Karina Untech. Thus a new common project was born in Serge’s mind, and he started teaching Karina. She has turned to be a clever and very quick student.
